Victims of labor trafficking also make up a significant portion of modern slaves. It is easy for migrant workers to find themselves in exploitative situations and little resources are available to them.

I am inspired by the work of human rights activist Bartolome De Las Casa, who employed the artist Theodor de Bry to depict the atrocities of the Spanish conquest. Many of these illustrations depict the loss of physical agency suffered by the natives during this time period.

Eliminated limbs serve as a metaphor for the loss of economic agency that modern slaves endure.
